What to eat and avoid before vaginoplasty is preparing your body for a life changing surgery and it’s also about caring for your body and mind in the days before surgery. One of the most effective ways to support a smooth recovery is through nutrition. What you eat before vaginoplasty can make a real difference in how your body heals afterwards.
The days leading up to your procedure are the perfect time to focus on simple, nourishing meals that are easy to digest. By following a low-residue diet, you help your digestive system rest, reduce the risk of post-operative discomfort, and prepare your body for healing. The days leading up to your surgery are the perfect time to nourish yourself with simple, easy-to-digest foods.
What Is a low-residue diet before vaginoplasty?
A low-residue diet is a short-term eating plan that limits foods high in fiber and other indigestible components. “Residue” is what remains in your intestines after digestion, such as fiber, seeds, or skins which can stimulate bowel movements.
Before vaginoplasty, your surgical team may recommend this type of diet to minimize bowel activity, prevent bloating, and lower the risk of complications during or after surgery. This is not a permanent diet, it’s a gentle, temporary adjustment that helps your body focus on recovery and you just need to follow it 5 days before surgery (preparation guide).

Foods to avoid before vaginoplasty
Some foods can cause bloating, gas, or increased bowel activity, which are best avoided in the pre-surgery phase:
✖ Whole grains, fruit with skin, and raw vegetables. ( Too high in fiber).
✖ Fatty meats (beef, pork,sausagesduck, lamb…)
✖ Oily fish (salmon tuna, sardines ..) can slow digestion.
✖ Legumes, nuts, and seeds: create residue and can lead to discomfort.
✖ Chocolate, cakes, or rich dairy products: fatty and sugary foods may delay recovery.
Following your surgeon’s nutrition guidelines closely helps reduce risks and contributes to an easier recovery experience
Exceptions: Potatoes, carrots and zucchini but should always be peeled and cooked.
Juice and filtered juices or cooked ham, chicken and turkey
Hydration: The hero of healing
Proper hydration before vaginoplasty is just as important as what you eat. Drink plenty of water, clear broths, and light herbal teas to keep your body hydrated and your skin healthy.
Drink 1.5-2 liters od water a day (no sodas)
Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine, as they can dehydrate your tissues and affect your body’s balance before anesthesia. Hydration also supports circulation and helps prevent constipation, both crucial for post-operative comfort.
