    Vaginoplasty: Hospital Stay Packing List

What no one tells you until you’re already in the hospital bed

There’s a moment before vaginoplasty, usually late at night when your suitcase is half open, the room is quiet, and everything suddenly feels very real. You’re not just packing clothes.

You’re packing comfort to control when your body will need to rest, heal, and be cared for by others.

    The conflict: expectations vs. reality

Many patients imagine the hospital stay as a brief pause, a few days, some discomfort, then back to normal. The reality is different.

You may spend many hours, even days, on your back waking up periodically as nurses check IVs or vitals and your energy will be limited in ways you can’t fully predict.

Things that feel trivial at home like charging your phone, watching a show, sitting comfortably, suddenly matter a lot. The good news? A few thoughtful choices can radically change how you feel during this time.

The Vaginoplasty experience: what patients actually use

After listening to countless post-op feedback, patterns emerge Patients talk about relief and here’s what consistently makes a difference:

    1. Back comfort is not optional:  If you’re on your back for long periods, support becomes everything and we recommend many patients to bring a  rectangular cushion with a hole cut out in the center, with gentle depressions running front to back or a donut pillow (both easy to find on Amazon).

2- Entertainment helps, but only if it’s realistic:  Holding an iPad or phone while lying on your back gets tiring much faster than you expect. Headphones or earbuds become essential, not just for watching something, but for creating a small sense of privacy in a shared space and an amazon prime, Netflix or Disney + subscription will be very helpful.

3- One detail people often forget is power:  Hospital outlets aren’t always within reach. A long charging cable for your phone saves you from unnecessary frustration when your energy is already limited.

4- Clothing shifts in importance:  Many patients spend the first days in hospital gowns. We usually recommend five pairs of cotton, high-waisted underwear, full coverage and in dark colors. Some patients choose period underwear from Amazon. They’re more expensive, but many say they’re worth it.

We recommend bringing comfortable clothes easy to remove and put on, tops with zippers on the front, ideal if you are opting for a combined surgery such as GRS and breast augmentation.

5- Things that come up again and again: Do not bother with contact lenses, remove piercings before surgery and store valuables in the clinic or hospital safe.  One patient brought a small round mirror, about three to four inches wide, with a bendable handle that worked as a stand. It turned out to be unexpectedly useful for her.

6- Trolleys are better than big heavy bags: Remember you won´t be able to lift weights at discharge. For patients who come alone, a box with medical supplies can be sent directly to your Airbnb or hotel.   Ask yourself, what will help you rest, feel supported, and stay grounded while your body does the work. Overpacking does not bring peace; thoughtful packing does.

7– Your emotional wellbeing is as important as your physical wellbeing:  A loved one welcome to stay with you free of charge:   Your room has a large sofa bed next to your bed who can stay with during the whole stay with breakfast included and after discharge you will always have direct contact with your surgeon and the medical team so you never feel alone.

8- Your post-op is our priority:  We plan ahead providing a travel plan, vaginoplasty  kit and Meds to go  so you don´t even have to go to the pharmacy and you will always have direct contact with your surgeon and/or medical team.   We got you and your loved one covered!

Pack smart and give yourself permission to simply heal!
